First lets talk about the gear.. I’ve been wanting to test the new Sigma 150-600mm Sport and round 2 of the Battle for Ohio Motocross Championship at Malvern MX was the perfect opportunity! I used it in combination with my Canon 6D on Saturday. Sunday I brought the 7D II / 70-200 IS II, both combinations worked great.
At 6.3 lbs the Sigma is pretty heavy, which is why I used a monopod. I knew handholding it would be an issue, especially once you get out into the 500-600mm range. I shot mostly in manual at f/6.3 & 1/2500th. For the most part the lens was fine, but if I had to choose between it and the new Canon 100-400L I’d go with the probably go with the Canon, but the extra reach of the Sigma is nice. It really comes down to your needs. Ultimately for sports I’d rather have one of Canon’s Great Whites like the EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM.

What about the track? The track was in great shape for sure! Jason and the crew at Malvern MX did an outstanding job. You can view race results here.
